The Role of the Nordic Hamstring Curl in the Rehabilitation of Hamstring Injuries: A Narrative Review

Abstract

Background: Hamstring injuries are common in sports that require high levels of speed andpower, such as soccer, football and field. Prevention and rehabilitation strategies are essential toaddress the economic and performance-related consequences of hamstring injuries in sports.Astate-of-the-art review provides a comprehensive and up-to-date summary of current knowledgeonhamstringmuscleinjuries in athletes.

Purpose: To review the literature verify the effectiveness of Nordic hamstring curls exercise inmanagingand preventing the hamstringinjuries duringthe sports activity.

Method: Electronic databases used for relevant trails: Were google scholar, Pubmed, Cochrane,NCBI, Science Direct, CINAHLI. All the articles are taken from 2017 to 2022.On Nordichamstring curl in sports players were kept as inclusion criteria. 140 articles were search, whichincludesNHE in sportsplayers. After screening39 studies werefinallyincluded in thereview.

Result:Atotal39studieswerefinallyincludedinthereviewinwhich,17Randomizedcontrolled trial, 16 Systemic Review, 2 Quasi-experimental Studies, 4 Observational studies.Hamstring injury rate was substantially less in the groups which included the Nordic Hamstringcurl exercise in their daily regime. NHE results in a significant increase in eccentric strength, ineccentricpeak torque,H:Q ratio,muscle fasciclelengthand musclearchitecture.

Conclusion:TherewasasignificantrelationbetweenthehamstringinjuriesandNordichamstring curl exercise. NHE is found to be effective in the prevention and rehabilitation ofhamstring injuries in athletes. Clinicians should be encouraged to incorporate NHE into theirprevention strategies and players and coaches should be more aware of and encourage the use ofNHE.
